Benjamin Degenhardt

Rediscovering the Joy of the Traditional Work

DATES: TBC OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2026

Ready to shake off the stiffness and seriousness that can creep into advanced, traditional Pilates work? This two-part online workshop is all about bringing curiosity, play, and ease back into the repertoire—while still diving deep into the more challenging material. Over two 90-minute sessions, we’ll build up to select bigger and bolder movements in a way that feels natural and fun. Through live demonstrations, interactive discussion, and prerecorded video clips, we’ll look at how the original spirit of Pilates—dynamic, experimental, and deeply human—can guide our teaching and personal practice today.

Come curious, and leave inspired to approach the original work with joy and confidence.

In this two session series… Benjamin (zooming from Portugal) will take us through something special. At the conclusion of the first session, he will offer some homework and reflection to give you a few weeks to work with your clients and your own body and then come back for more tuition… with fun and purpose front of mind.

Please note, this is a special event and is sold as a pair. A recording is available to attendees for 14 days.

The clarity of bone: Embodying your skeleton for greater support and freedom throughout your movement.

Friday 30 January 2:30pm-4:30pm AEDT

In this workshop we will explore the skeletal system to create greater stability, effortless power, integration and articulation in your movement. Using the classical Pilates repertoire we will connect deeply with specific bones of the foot, pelvis and torso to achieve weight transfer through the centre of every joint. As a result of this experiential process you will gain the clarity you need to load bone tissue in a way that brings health to the body.

This workshop will support you with:

Cues and imagery specific to connecting with the skeleton. Greater capacity to embody your skeleton as an integrated system and initiate movement from different tissues.

Work those muscles!Engaging our muscles for optimal performance without excessive tension and stress.

Friday 5 June 2:30pm AEST

In this workshop we take a closer look at muscle tissue and explore ways to contract muscles to create strength and reduce tension. Starting with the experiential anatomy of muscle tissue We will work with imagery and cues that speak specifically to the movement of the muscle cells and fibres. This process will support you to access efficient and powerful muscle contractions. We will then apply this depth of understanding to specific muscles to integrate and balance the muscular system as a whole. On completion of this workshop you will have a clear understanding of muscle contraction and new teaching skills that will enable you to work with your clients more effectively and efficiently.

Your questions, answered (by Renee)

FRIDAY 1 MAY 2:30pm 4:30pm AEST

FRIDAY 4 DECEMBER 2:30pm - 4:30pm AEDT

How lucky we are to have the guidance and experience of one our industry’s gems!

Clever, humble, considerate, kind and a trail-blazer…Renee’s instagram posts always give me food for thought … so I asked for her help to guide our mentees and industry pals through our shared passion, working with clients. Although we have planned back-up material, we are going to use this opportunity, two actually, to let the participants raise their questions with Renee.

To facilitate this truly special mentoring experience, bookings will cut-off two weeks prior to each session. I will reach out to each participant three weeks prior to get their questions for Renee and we will adequately prepare bespoke mentoring for the group.

Renee will be leading this session on Zoom.

These are single sessions and of course you may attend both, but they aren’t linked.

Wunderful Connections: A look at enhancing connections for the matwork on the Wunda Chair

FRIDAY OCTOBER 2 2026 2:30-4:30pm

Resident teacher at The Movement Refinery and owner of Temple Pilates (Mornington Peninsula), Vanessa is a Pilates adventurer who has studied with some of the best globally and leads by example, trying, thinking and teaching. As a fully certified teacher who works with clients of all ages and movement capacities, Vanessa is an advocate of the Pilates method, a complete puzzle, here, she offers you a beautiful mix of corner pieces and tricky bits to enrich your understanding.

Pilates is a system of exercises designed to feed into each other and in this workshop we’ll look at how we can use the Wunda Chair to gain the connections and movement skills we need to execute the challenging original matwork. We’ll consider various go-to patterns or challenges that clients might have and see how we can develop connections & sensations on the chair and bring them to the mat. If you’d like to explore, support or challenge these essential movement concepts, this workshop is for you.

Vanessa will be teaching this from our studio in West Melbourne, we welcome you to attend in-person or by zoom if you’re not in Melbourne. In this session, we will be using Wunda chairs from Pilates Designs and Contrology (Balanced Body) but using classical spring settings.

Lucia Farina

The missing module

DATE TO BE CONFIRMED

We love that Lucia has deep passion, honesty and clarity and also takes the time to really consider what’s going on and uplift those who are giving it a go.

Lucia has a long-standing association with The Movement Refinery. We have worked together, walked the streets of London and had many chats about movement, Pilates, the industry and controversial figures on instagram. At our core, we believe that to break the rules, you need to know the rules. We also think a skilled teacher should be able to see the Classical method with X-ray vision and understand what is going on beyond the surface no matter how ‘advanced’ a session is. Here’s the deal…. Lucia wants to bring you in and discuss all of the bits and pieces that were missing from your first course and the special sauce she has cooked up in her many years in the industry.

This session will also include some Q and A, so let’s get it going!

Lucia will be leading this very likely on zoom from the United Kingdom. We will confirm if any changes need to be made due to the time-difference.
