INSTRUCTOR LAB

We love live sessions with our colleagues, it’s a time to come together, inspire and share our passion for movement and helping people.

These relaxed sessions are a great way to catch up with fellow instructors, enjoy a movement class and then a PD session with plenty of practical applications for your studio

SUNDAY 5 MAY 10am - 1pm

There are many reasons why thoracic mobility can improve your movement and wellbeing; use our unique tools to improve your client’s thoracic mobility and comfort with all types of Pilates especially looking at The Rollover and classical inversions.

We will bring elements from the modalities we have studied over the last 20+ years to ensure that we support our natural asymmetry, but also integrate these wonderful movements back into the original work.

SUNDAY 2 june 10am - 1pm

If your client has neck pain or low tolerance to core work, we can identify how to support them to be happier while exercising and primed for life outside of the studio.

Let's look at the technique and strategies when executing spinal articulation and which apparatus can promote best connections. We will then look to a strengthening programme for the neck and upper body within and just outside of the original work.

SUNDAY 7 JULY 10am-1pm

In the past, Pilates instructors have been taught to avoid strengthening the front of the hip, to stretch at the start of every session and to use 'table-top' as a home base for conditioning…. but the world has moved on and so should we.

In this session we share our method to help your clients to get through more work and support their posture and wellbeing. Working this way also takes advantage of the system links within the original work and often leads to rapid improvement and comfort when completing fundamental and elite level exercise conditioning.

Nowhere to hide: Wunda chair edition

Nicholas Psarros and Chris Kelly of The Movement Refinery, Melbourne

Too often, we as instructors end up using the Wunda chair for three or four basic exercises as an afterthought or when more substantial apparatus isn’t available. This version of the classical chair happens to be one of the best places for creating strength and lift in the body, so let’s find the grit and sweat in the detail. We will look at the technical elements of two groups of related exercises to arouse a quality of movement and strength adaptation unique to the chair.

We hope to explore the original method with:

  • Pull up series

  • Mountain climber series

  • Step up variations / Going up front

  • Handstand preparations

  • Horseback

  • Teaser

  • Swan

  • Mermaid
